Insights from Transformation Digital Art 2025
Reports and reflections on the sessions of the Transformation Digital Art symposium
How does a work of art evolve over time, and what should be preserved? What does it mean to safeguard works that inherently embrace transformation? This year’s Transformation Digital Art symposium explored these questions, over two immersive days, focused on media art’s live, ephemeral, and generative qualities; questions around media archiving; and the use of new technologies in documentation.
On 20 and 21 March 2025, over 170 international participants gathered at LAB111 in Amsterdam to examine media art’s deep connections to performance, the challenges of documentation and conservation, and the generative potential of re-execution. This collection of reports, written by volunteers of the symposium, captures key discussions and reflections from the symposium, offering a resource for artists, students, and researchers engaged with digital art’s ever-evolving landscape.
